Lady Mabel's Wood
Formerly known as Hall Lane, this Woodland Trust land was purchased as a bare land site within the Red Rose Community Forest on the outskirts of Wigan. Local people, in consultation with the trust, re-named the wood Lady Mabel's Wood in late 1998 to mark the areas history. Lady Mabel's Wood lies on parkland adjacent to the Leeds-Liverpool canal and the Haigh Country Park and golfcourse. The new broad-leaved woodland includes large areas of grassland which provide a variety of walks with open views to Haigh Hall.
